Now UP government has started working to develop the proposed Jewar International airport in Noida and the government will convert the whole project into a complete aviation hub. The airport will have minimum of four runways and facilities which includes flying and training institute, cargo and aircraft maintenance repair and overhaul.
The announcement was made on the second day of investor’s summit.
Surya pal gangwar, Director of UP civil aviation department mentions that the plan is to develop the jewar airport as an international grade aviation hub. He further adds “we are working in every manner to complete the planning and other formalities will complete soon”. He also adds that a session on civil aviation is emerging with opportunities at the summit.
Jewar Airport, is determined to be the one of the important projects to clear out the traffic at IGI airport, Delhi and we will come up with 3000 acres of land according to PPP model.
According to the experts, the proposed facilities will add to the commercial sector of the airport and regions nearby.
Union minister, Ashok Gajapathi Raju was the key speaker in the session and he mentions that the Jewar Airport will be developed in next six years. “According to various studies it is speculated that IGI Airport will be completely congested by 2024. And it is an alarming situation to develop a new Airport in Jewar. This is not only for Delhi, but also for UP and other states nearby.” Raju further admits that the project was delayed because of lack of coordination between center and UP government.
Other reason for the delay in commencement is because of previous aviation policy which restricts the construction of any other airport within 150 kms from an existing one. Under this policy, GMR which completely operated IGI Airport, had rights to refuse any airport within km radius.
Now GMR agreed in developing Jewar Airport because of alarming situation. Director of GMR, K Naryan Rao agrees that GMR will participate in development of Jewar Airport. Now, the prices of Jewar Airport projects will increase and buyers are suggested to invest in these projects so that they can get better returns in future.
Agreeing on the centre-state coordination for betterment of aviation infrastructure, Rao also adds that a central facility committee should be confirmed so that we can speed up the process. He also emphasizes on the need of having metro rail connectivity before completion of Jewar Airport.
